I've been blogging for years, and I figured, "What the hell? Why not turn this into a career?"
I am 26 years old, I hail from New Orleans, Louisiana, and I am a movie nerd. Strike that. I am a definite cinemaphile. I am obsessed with film, film trivia, you name it, I'm interested.
I'm that weird friend of yours that noticed Courteney Cox-Arquette in Bruce Springsteen's Dancing In The Dark video, before she because ridiculously famous.
Recently, I went to see the latest installment in the Terminator franchise, Terminator: Salvation, and was really, quite impressed. I am very happy with the selection of Christian Bale to play the adult John Connor. McG tied Salvation in with the previous three films seamlessly, with some obvious references (ie- "I'll be back") and even some subtle references (ie- the song John Connor is playing to attract the motorbike Terminators is the same song that the pre-teen John Connor was playing while riding his motorbike in Terminator 2: Judgment Day.)
At times, the plot seemed to drag a little, but in all honesty, McG had quite a legacy to live up to, and a lot of "legend" to tie all together in a two hour film. My only bitch about this movie is the lack of attention given to Bryce Dallas Howard's character, Kate Brewster-Connor, in this film. In Terminator 3:Rise Of The Machines, Kate is a very independent, strong-willed woman, and was a key player in that film. In Salvation, she seemed to fade into the background, heavily pregnant and docile. I can only hope that when the next installment comes out (tentative release set for 2011) her character has more screen time and involvement in the film.
Overall, I was very impressed. The visuals were stunning, the plot was faithful to the gospel set down in the previous three films, not to mention a nod was given to the original Terminator, Arnold Schwarzenegger, by super-imposing his face on the first T-800 off the assembly line to battle John Connor. All the way down to the 80's hairstyle.
Nice job, McG. If you can manage to get Christian Bale to show his ass in the next film (literally, not by blowing up on set like a prima donna) then you'll have a life-long fan in myself.,
